A kiss-cut sticker is cut through the vinyl but not through the backing paper, following the outline of the artwork. The practical consequences for a bottle are specific.

You get the shape, not a rectangle. A circular badge applied as a circle looks deliberate. The same badge on a square of white vinyl looks like a label, and on a curved bottle the corners of that square are the first thing to lift.

The 1/8 inch border is doing a job. Ours carry a 1/8" white border around the artwork. It is not decoration — a cut that runs exactly along the ink edge is fragile, and a small border gives the edge something to hold with.

It peels cleanly. Because the backing is intact, you can pick the sticker off in one piece rather than fighting a corner, which matters more than it sounds when you are applying it to a curved surface and only get one go.

How to apply one so it stays on

  • Clean the panel with something that removes oil, not just water. A bottle that has lived in a bag has sunscreen and hand oil on it, and that is what causes a lifted edge two weeks later.
  • Pick the flattest part of the bottle. Most insulated bottles have a slightly flatter face; a 3-inch sticker sits happily there and fights you anywhere else.
  • Apply from one edge, not the middle. Anchor one side, then roll it down. Pressing the centre first traps air you cannot get out.
  • Press the edges hard, twice. Once on application, once an hour later. Edges are where every failure starts.
  • Leave it a day before the first wash. The adhesive keeps building for several hours.

Size: three inches is not arbitrary

A standard insulated bottle has roughly a three-to-four inch usable flat panel before the curvature becomes severe enough to force a wrinkle.
